About the Authors
The theory behind What's My Leadership Style is based on the proven personality theories of Marston and Jung, the model identifies two basic dimensions of personal style: Assertiveness and Expressiveness. Assertiveness is the effort a person makes to influence or control the thoughts or actions of others. Expressiveness is the effort that a person makes to control his or her emotions and feelings when relating to others. Combining the two dimensions results in a four-quadrant model with four unique personal styles: Direct, Spirited, Considerate, and Systematic. The simplicity of the model makes it is easier for you to facilitate and easily remembered by your participants. You will find the model is quickly picked up by learners and integrated back on the job.

How It Works
What's My Leadership Style? starts with a leadership style assessment in which individuals are given 20 pairs of actions relating to leadership behavior. With a limit of five points, assessment-takers distribute points between the two actions in each pair - indicating the degree to which they prefer either action when acting as a leader. The result of scoring the assessment is the identification of one's preferred leadership style: direct, spirited, considerate, or systematic. Completing the assessment requires approximately 10 minutes.
After the leadership style assessment has been scored, we recommend you allow approximately one hour for interpretation of scores, topic discussion, debrief, and action planning. The facilitator guide also offers an easy-to-follow workshop outline that expands What's My Leadership Style into a two-hour program.

What's My Leadership Style

You will need to order one facilitator guide per trainer and either one print participant guide or one online assessment for each individual learner.
Deciding whether to order online or print assessments? Both versions include a personal style report, full color charts, interpretive information, worksheets, and action planning: The online version is an excellent choice for enterprise-wide training or audiences that are geographically dispersed. It offers 24/7 access, streamlined distribution, and instant scoring. It's also a great way to reduce paper use in your training. The print version is ideal for facilitators who prefer to oversee scoring and administration of the assessment, who don't know who the participants will be before the session.
Mary Blitzer Field
is a former senior developer at HRDQ. While at HRDQ she developed or co-developed several products including What's My Leadership Style?, What's My Time Style?, and Mentoring in the Moment. Before joining HRDQ, Ms. Field was involved in marketing, developing, and presenting corporate training seminars in communication skills such as scientific writing, business writing, and presentations. She has worked with a broad range of industries, with specialties in pharmaceuticals, chemical, health care, entertainment, and manufacturing. Her corporate training experience also includes the development of seminar manuals, visuals, and job aids. She has gone on to provide professional training and development services at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and, currently, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Ms. Field holds an MA in English language and literature from Columbia University and her teaching experience includes writing instruction at several renowned universities including Columbia and Northeastern.
