Leading Change at Every Level Assessment
Leading Change at Every Level Assessment Traditionally, CEO's have shouldered the responsibility for implementing organizational change. However, corporate cultures have streamlined and recent research tells us that change is effectively implemented when it’s lead by those it affects most directly. As a result one’s ability to lead change has become a critical performance measurement in today’s unpredictable workplace environment. Leading Change at Every Level identifies the five dimensions of change leadership that will help to garner support for any change effort; they include:
  • Modeling the Change,
  • Communicating About the Change,
  • Involving Others in the Change,
  • Helping Others Break from the Past, and
  • Creating a Supportive Environment for the Change
Quick Links:
Each participant will base their responses to this 30-item assessment on a change they’ve recently experienced. Ultimately each group member will identify existing change skills and pinpoint areas that require further development.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Understand change behaviors
  • Develop change leadership skills and behaviors
  • Generate support for change efforts
  • Improve ability to lead change
Theory & Development

HRDQ’s Leading Change at Every Level was developed in response to countless customer requests for professional development resources on the subject of change implementation. We learned that the classic, CEO-led change is becoming extinct and that instead, change is most effective when it is led at every level. After significant study through relevant literature and focus groups, we’ve concluded that there are five dimensions of change; these include:
  • Modeling the Change
  • Communicating About the Change
  • Involving Others in the Change
  • Helping Others Break from the Past
  • Creating a Supportive Environment for the Change
Using a change for which they are currently responsible as a reference, participants complete a 30-item assessment. After indicating how true they find each statement, individuals generate an Overall Effectiveness Score for leading change. Sub scores measure effectiveness in each of the 5 Dimensions of Leading Change. Next, participants learn about the dimensions and how to interpret their scores in these areas. Finally, questions regarding each dimension prompt participants to plan for improvement.

Uses for the Product

Leading Change at Every Level is effective when used as a stand-alone instrument or as a component in any change management program. The tool is ideal for employees who:
  • Are currently leading a change effort and want to identify actions to assist the process
  • Want to evaluate their effectiveness leading a recent change
  • Are planning to lead a change effort in the near future
How it Works

The Leading Change at Every Level Assessment asks each participant to respond to 30 common workplace scenarios by indicating how true the statement is about their behavior related to a real-life change situation. Responses reveal each person’s reaction to change, using the five dimensions as a filter. Once individuals take their own personal inventory, there are five pages, each with questions related to one dimension, which provide an opportunity to compose an action plan.
